about

I wrote this about a year ago, in the midst of a lot of life uncertainty, trying to discern the next step, and trying to trust.
We live in the midst of heaviness, difficulty, brokenness… the prayer in this song:
‘Be with us and be steady.’

lyrics

It’s cold and dark and dangerous
It’s night, and need is heavy.
A desperate father hopes to find
Some grace to guard and steady,
A place to welcome this child.
We’re trying to find some grace in the night—
Oh help us to welcome this child.

So come to us, dear Jesus.
Come infant and so vulnerable,
Dependent and so fragile.
Know our pain, know our need,
And our infirmity.
Be with us and be steady
Be with us and be steady
Be with us and be one of us.

It’s cold and dark and dangerous
It’s night and sheep are frightened
Shepherds try to stay awake
Watching, ever-ready,
to keep from losing it all.
We’re frightened for the things we can’t see
Oh save us from losing it all.

It’s cold and dark and dangerous
It’s strange, but light is guiding
Seers are traveling through the night
In hope the saviour is ready
To keep them from losing heart.
We’re trying to find our way too,
Oh save us from losing heart.

So come to us, dear Jesus.
Come infant and so vulnerable,
Dependent and so fragile.
Know our pain, know our need,
And our infirmity.
Be with us and be steady
Be with us and be steady
Be with us and be one of us.
